Why Canning Became My Passion—and Why I’m Sharing It with You
Hello, and welcome! I’m Texas, and I’m thrilled to have you here in this new space devoted to the art and science of canning. As a health coach, I’ve always been passionate about empowering people to make healthier, self-sufficient choices, especially when it comes to their food choices.
For me, canning has become a vital part of that journey. This blog is a place to share everything I’ve learned about preserving food safely, knowing exactly what goes into it, and discovering the joy and confidence that comes with filling your pantry with wholesome, homemade foods.
The Inspiration Behind Preserving with Texas
When I first started canning, it was simply for fun—I loved capturing the taste of each season in a jar. But as grocery prices rose and the benefits of preserving my own food became clear, canning quickly became more than a hobby. It was a way to feed my family with foods I knew were made with care and quality. Driven by this, I dove deep into the world of canning, spending countless hours researching, testing, and learning from every trusted source I could find.
Though I wanted to become a certified Master Food Preserver, the program wasn’t available in my area. So, I took matters into my own hands, compiling trusted resources and creating a “Master Book” of canning knowledge that now spans three volumes. Along the way, I learned by trial and error, fine-tuning my techniques and deepening my expertise through hands-on experience.
Crafting a Trusted Resource
As my canning skills grew, friends, family, and clients started coming to me with questions. They wanted to know what to can, how to can it safely, and which tools to use. It became clear that many people were eager to learn but I didn’t have a single place for my resources that I have discovered along the way. That’s why I created Preserving with Texas—a blog dedicated to combining practical, real-world guidance with safe, research-backed information, providing a single comprehensive resource for anyone interested in canning. Here, you’ll find everything I’ve learned: beginner guides, advanced techniques, essential safety tips, troubleshooting advice, and a growing library of tried-and-true recipes. My hope is that this blog becomes the resource I wished I’d had when I was starting out.
